Winship-Trained Cancer Researchers To Receive Diplomas

Cancer Biology Graduate Program students Jason Conage-Pough, Jamie King, and Lauren Rusnak successfully defended their doctoral dissertations earlier this month and will receive their degrees at Emory Commencement on May 14. Winship congratulates the talented Class of 2018, many of whom trained in Winship labs and clinics and whose efforts will help drive the future of cancer research and care.

Koff Awarded AACR Lymphoma Research Fellowship
Winship oncologist Jean Koff, MD has received a Lymphoma Research Fellowship from the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR). Funding from the two-year grant will support her research project, "B cell repertoire, genetic abnormalities, and outcomes in B cell lymphoma." Koff was presented with the award Apr. 17 during the AACR Annual Meeting in Chicago.
 
  
Daddacha Receives K01 Award
Postdoctoral fellow Waaqo Daddacha, PhD in the Department of Radiation Oncology has received a K01 award from the National Cancer Institute. The five-year mentored research grant will support his project, "Understanding mechanistic role of SAMHD1 in DNA damage response and therapeutic benefit for malignant glioma." Keller Lecture Set for May 8
Winship and the Department of Radiation Oncology will host the 5th James W. Keller, MD Lectureship on May 8 at 5pm in the John H. Kauffman Auditorium. Guest speaker Jeffrey D. Reminder: Rearden Award Nominations Due May 7
Established in memory of former Winship patient and advisory board member Bobby Rearden, the annual Robert L. "Bobby" Rearden, Jr. Spirit of Winship Award recognizes one faculty or staff member and one volunteer who exemplify Winship's culture of caring for patients. Nominations are due by 5pm on Monday, May 7.

Winship Nurse Practitioner Retires After 37 Years
Oncology nurse practitioner Sharon Etris retired last week after nearly four decades caring for patients at Emory. She plans to continue serving patients as a Winship volunteer and would like to develop a complementary program of music and exercise therapy. Winship Offers New Staff Support and Restoration Sessions

New Winship Staff Support and Restoration Sessions provide a quiet place for staff to take a break from the stress and pace of working in a health care environment. Sponsored by Winship Spiritual Health and the Unit Practice Council, each 90-minute session offers massage chairs, aroma therapy, herbal tea, and meditative music.
