Winship Celebrates 20 Years of Outstanding BMT Leadership

Twenty years ago, Edmund K. Waller, MD, PhD, and Amelia Langston, MD, joined forces to manage the growth of patient care and research at the Bone Marrow and Stem Cell Transplant Center at Winship. Waller is now director of the Bone Marrow and Stem Cell Transplant Program and Langston is medical director and section chief of the Program.

Winship Invest$ Names Pilot Grant Recipients
Eleven Winship investigators are the newest recipients of pilot grants through Winship Invest$, a peer-reviewed program designed to fund novel, innovative cancer research projects at Winship. Andrey Ivanov, PhD received the Fadlo R. Khuri Translational Research Award in recognition of having the top rated translational proposal.

Miller Earns Distinguished Investigator Grant
Andrew H. Miller, MD, co-leader of Winship's Cancer Prevention and Control Program, along with Emory professors Drs. Patricia Brennan and J. Douglas Bremner, are among just 17 researchers in the U.S. to earn Distinguished Investigator grants from the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation.

Window Into Winship

This week we are taking readers behind the scenes and into the OR at Emory University Hospital with thoracic oncology surgeon Seth Force, MD. Force is looking at a video monitor feed from a tiny camera inside the patient's lung. He is locating a nodule that will be removed through a minimally invasive procedure to determine if it is cancerous.

Thanks to generous gifts from the Dunwoody Country Club Champions Golf Association and the Club's John H. Kauffman Prostate Cancer Fundraiser, the Winship Invest$ Prostate Cancer Research Pilot Grant funds innovative one-year proposals up to $50,000. Applications are due Mar.14.
