Georgia Legislators Tour Emory Proton Therapy Center

Annual Puri Lecture Set for Feb. 23
The 3rd Annual Surinder K. Puri Memorial Lecture will be held Feb. 23 at noon in Winship's John H. Kauffman Auditorium. Guest speaker Brad Kahl, MD of Washington University Medical School will deliver the lecture on mantle cell lymphoma. Pictured: Puri (left) and Kahl.

Winship Marks World Cancer Day
On Sunday, Feb. 4, Winship will recognize World Cancer Day, an initiative of the Union for International Cancer Control to raise awareness of the staggering 8.8 million people that lose their lives to cancer to each year and the importance of the global effort to combat the disease.

In Memoriam: Julie Whitehead

Longtime Winship volunteer Julie Whitehead passed away on Jan. 24 after a recurrence of cancer. Whitehead was inspired to give back to Winship and volunteer following her initial cancer diagnosis more than a decade ago. She was one of the inaugural recipients of the Robert L. "Bobby" Rearden Spirit of Winship Award and recently named a Winship 80 honoree.

National Women Physicians Day Is Feb. 3
Winship will celebrate National Women Physicians Day on Feb. 3, the birthday of Elizabeth Blackwell, MD, the first woman to receive a medical degree in the U.S. The day honors Blackwell's legacy and strives to bring improvements to the workplace for women entering the field of medicine.
