| | Mao Receives NIH Grant for Whole Body PET-MRI Scanner | Winship investigator and Professor of Radiology and Imaging Sciences, Hui Mao, PhD, recently received a NIH High-end instrumentation grant to support the purchase of a state-of-the-art FDA-approved whole body integrated PET-MRI scanner at Emory. This advanced multi-modal imaging technology will be the first of its kind and only one in the state of Georgia. It will be used for both research and clinical service in oncology as well as other fields, such as neurosciences and molecular imaging development.

| | | | Winship Doctoral Student Wins Marie Curie Award | Allyson Koyen, a cancer biology graduate student in Dr. David Yu's lab, is this year's recipient of the Radiation Research Society's Marie Curie Award. Koyen has been invited to present her research on how "EZH2 mediates cisplatin resistance in small cell lung cancer through nucleotide excision repair" at the annual RRS Conference which will be held September 23-26 in Chicago. Since 1999, the Marie Curie Award has recognized doctoral students with a $1,500 travel grant for their research in radiation.

| | Xiao Receives Young Investigator Award | Winship investigator Canhua Xiao, PhD, received a Young Investigator Award for her abstract, "The Association Between Glucocorticoid Receptor Sensitivity and Fatigue in Patients with Head and Neck Cancer," at the Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer-International Society of Oral Oncology Annual Meeting held in Vienna on June 28-30. | | | | Winship Staff Support Delta Survivorship Event | Hope Thrives, a peer support group for employees of Delta Air Lines who are affected by cancer, held a luncheon on June 27 at the Delta Flight Museum to bring survivors together in celebration. Winship staff were on hand to provide attendees with information regarding survivorship programs and services available at Winship.
