Winship Holds Clinical Trials Meeting to Coincide with Biden Summit

Winship hosted a two-hour roundtable discussion on Friday, Sept. 21 devoted to an in-depth examination of cancer clinical trials and patient enrollment. The meeting coincided with the Biden Cancer Community Summit in Washington, DC, and hundreds of other similar events around the world.

Emory Appoints Bruner as Senior VP for Research
Effective Oct. 1, Deborah Watkins Bruner, RN, PhD, FAAN, will serve as Emory's senior vice president for research. In this new executive position, Bruner will report directly to the president and serve on the President's Leadership Team. Bruner currently serves as Winship's associate director for mentorship, education and training.

Synergy Awards Support New Winship Research
The Woodruff Health Sciences Center has announced the 10 proposals selected out of 54 submitted for funding in the fifth round of Synergy Awards. Five of the funded projects represent collaborative research from the following Winship members: Drs. Peng Jin, Hao Wu, David Howard, Veronika Fedirko, Mehmet Bilen, Viraj Master, Haydn Kissick, Yijuan Hu, Timothy Read, Lee Cooper, and Alton Farris.

Winship Town Hall Set for Oct. 17
Winship Executive Director Walter J. Curran, Jr., MD, and members of Winship's senior leadership team will hold a Town Hall on Oct. 17 at 4:30pm in the Kauffman Auditorium (C5012, Winship 5th Floor). The annual event will be followed by a reception.

Cars Under the Stars

The Friends of Winship Cars Under the Stars event on Sunday, Sept. 16 raised more than $100,000 for cancer research at Winship. Among the nearly 200 attendees were event co-chairs Sam Snider and Patti Dickey and honorary co-chairs Chuck Warren, community volunteer, and Dan Reeves, former coach of the Atlanta Falcons.
