Winship Researchers Receive NCI Grant to Develop Patient Tobacco Cessation Program

Researchers at Winship have been awarded supplemental funding to the Winship Cancer Center Support Grant from the National Cancer Institute that will fund an evidence-based, tobacco-use treatment program for Winship patients. The program addresses Georgia's high rate of tobacco use and the need for a sustainable, multi-modality treatment approach for patients with varying levels of resources.

Boise Named Interim Leader of CGE Program

Effective Sept. 1, Larry Boise, PhD, will serve as Interim Program Leader of the Cancer Genetics and Epigenetics (CGE) Research Program as Winship launches a national search for the role formerly filled by Paula Vertino, PhD.

The 8th Annual Emory Eye Center Southeastern Ocular Oncology and Pathology Conference will be held on Sept. 28 on the Emory campus. Winship member Hans Grossniklaus, MD, MBA, is course director for this continuing medical education event.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will hold a Clinical Investigator Training Course Nov. 13-15 in Silver Spring, Md. The course will cover FDA regulations, ethical considerations, key scientific principles, and guidance on preparing a submission for FDA review.

The 2018 Swim Across America is Saturday, Sept. 22 at Lake Lanier. Funds will benefit a leukemia research project led by Douglas Graham, MD, PhD, director of the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.
