Winship receives multi-institutional NCI UG1 award

Winship and collaborators from five other institutions have received a UG1 grant from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) that will help fund translational research in thoracic malignancies. Suresh Ramalingam, MD (left) is the contact principal investigator for the award. Drs. Taofeek Owonikoko (center) and Shi-Yong Sun (right) will serve as co-investigators.

NRG Oncology awarded six-year, $95 million grant renewal
NRG Oncology, a National Cancer Institute National Clinical Trials Network group co-chaired by Walter J. Curran, Jr., MD, has received a six-year award to continue its work as a lead protocol organization conducting practice-changing clinical and translational research.

Study examines when cancer patients take their medication
Winship nurse researcher Kate Yeager, PhD, RN, FAAN is leading a $1.8 million National Cancer Institute R01 study to better understand how patients with chronic myeloid leukemia take their oral chemotherapy medication and what factors may prompt them to skip doses.

Emory Saint Joseph's Hospital has received its sixth Magnet designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, the gold standard for nursing excellence. It is the first community hospital in the world to earn six consecutive Magnet designations.

Facebook Live: CAR T-Cell Therapy
CAR T-cell therapy is an emerging form of immunotherapy for non-Hodgkin lymphoma, and through clinical trials for a few other types of cancer. Winship will host a Facebook Live on April 24 at 2:30pm with medical oncologist Jonathon Cohen, MD and BMT coordinator Laura Stanley, RN to explore who may benefit from this treatment and how it works.
