Winship hosts AACR Global Scholars-in-Training awardees

After the conclusion of the Annual Meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) on April 3, Winship welcomed 15 AACR Global Scholars-in-Training award recipients for an afternoon of professional development talks, tours of clinical and research facilities, and a networking reception with faculty, trainees, and students. Lonial presents at British Society of Haematology meeting
Sagar Lonial, MD discussed clinical trials at the UK Myeloma Forum of the British Society of Haematology's Annual Meeting, held April 1-3 in Glasgow. Lonial shared highlights of his talk with the Video Journal of Hematological Oncology.

Winship physicians honored at Georgia State Capitol
Winship physicians Drs. Bradley Carthon and Pretesh Patel were recognized as "Doctors of the Day" in the House Chamber of the Georgia State Capitol on April 2. They were invited guests of Rep. Roger Bruce (D - Atlanta, District 61).
 
 
 

Registration opens for 2019 Winship Win the Fight 5K

The Winship Win the Fight 5K Run/Walk, which starts and ends on the Emory University Quadrangle, will be held Saturday, October 5. Now in its ninth year, the event has raised over $4.9 million in support of cancer research at Winship.

Neuro-oncologists gather for annual meeting
There was a record turnout for the Winship-sponsored Society of Neuro-Oncology (SNO) Tumor Club meeting and dinner at the Emory School of Medicine on April 1. Nearly 180 attendees of the annual AACR conference participated in the event, which included 14 oral and 30 poster presentations on a variety of brain tumor research topics.
 
  
Ahmed to keynote Cancer Cell Biology Program retreat
The Cancer Cell Biology (CCB) Research Program retreat and poster reception will feature an engaging program of speakers and interactive sessions, including a keynote lecture by Rafi Ahmed, PhD. The full-day event is free and open to all registered participants. The deadline to register for poster consideration is April 23.

Flowers to chair Atlanta Lymphoma Workshop
Christopher Flowers, MD, MS will chair the Atlanta Lymphoma Workshop on April 13 at the Renaissance Atlanta Waverly Hotel and Convention Center. The program, designed for patients and caregivers, will feature nearly a dozen Winship physicians and specialists.

Call for proposals: pilot projects for single particle analysis
The Robert P. Apkarian Integrated Electron Microscopy Core will fund four projects to aid Emory investigators in generating preliminary data for grant applications using single particle cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM). One-page proposals are due April 15.
