Winship honors Waller with professorship

The inaugural Rein Saral, MD Professorship in Cancer Medicine was awarded on Jan. 16 to Edmund K. Waller, MD, PhD, in recognition of Waller's outstanding contributions and expertise in the area of hematological malignancies and bone marrow/stem cell transplantation. The professorship is given in honor of Rein Saral, MD, professor emeritus of hematology and medical oncology and senior advisor to Winship. Bernal-Mizrachi named Emory service chief for Grady
Winship medical oncologist Leon Bernal-Mizrachi, MD is the new Emory Service Chief of Hematology and Medical Oncology for the Grady Health System. He will oversee the practice of Hematology and Medical Oncology at Grady, provide local leadership for department faculty, collaborate with Grady leaders, and help align clinical, teaching, and research goals.

HPV vaccination rates remain low among U.S. adolescents
Only about 16 percent of U.S. adolescents have been fully vaccinated against human papillomavirus (HPV) by the time they turn 13, despite national recommendations that call for vaccination at 11 to 12 years old. Winship member Robert Bednarczyk, PhD is lead author of a study that evaluates the trend in the Journal of Infectious Diseases.

Meisel speaks to Delta Air Lines cancer survivors
Jane Meisel, MD, medical oncology from Winship's Glenn Family Breast Center, presented "Living through and beyond cancer: optimizing survivorship care," to over 200 Delta Air Lines employees and cancer survivors at the Delta Flight Museum on Jan. 16.
 
 
 

Image competition winners named

Six Emory graduate students are the winners of the annual image competition sponsored by the Integrated Cellular Imaging Shared Resource and Emory's Graduate Division of Biological and Biomedical Sciences (GDBBS). The winning images will be featured in promotional materials for the 16th Annual GDBBS Research Symposium, taking place Monday, Jan. 28. Infusion center team tackles clutter
In step with the popular Netflix show, "Tidying Up," infusion staffers completed a week-long operational improvement project at Winship's Ambulatory Infusion Center on Clifton Road to create a more efficient and visually calmer environment for patients, caregivers, and staff.
