Winship holds annual oncology nursing symposium

Over 300 nurses and health care professionals attended the 11th Annual Winship Oncology Nursing Symposium March 15-16 in Stone Mountain, Georgia. Starving leukemia cells by targeting amino acids
Winship researchers, led by Cheng-Kui Qu, MD, PhD, have identified a transporter enzyme called ASCT2, which brings amino acids into cells, as a target for anticancer drugs. The results were published online March 11 in Nature Metabolism.

The Winship Scientific Symposium includes a poster session on March 27 in the Miller-Ward Alumni House. Based on the scores, four outstanding poster presenters will be selected for funding and deliver 5-minute, Shark Tank-style proposals the following day.
