New Winship at Midtown facility will transform cancer care

Emory University Hospital Midtown and Winship Cancer Institute broke ground Nov. 12 on a new building designed to change the way cancer care is delivered to patients. The 17-story Winship at Midtown facility will put patients at the center of specialized care communities in order to deliver personalized care aligned with Winship's research.

Miller honored with Anna Monika Prize
Andrew H. Miller, MD has been awarded the 2019 Anna Monika Prize. The award recognizes his work on identifying biomarkers and targets on the effects of inflammation on the brain to develop novel treatments for depression.

Conference focuses on innovating with existing compounds
Hosted by Emory's Center for Affordable Medical Innovation, the Innovating with Existing Drugs and Nutraceuticals Conference was held Nov. 14-15 at the Emory Conference Center Hotel. Speakers include Drs. Vikas Sukhatme, Jonathan Lewin, Timothy Lash, Haian Fu, Jing Chen, Mark Rapaport, Viraj Master, Jack Arbiser, and Veronika Fedirko.

Winship physicians lend support to Pakistan cancer center
Drs. Omer Kucuk, Natia Esiashvili, and Mohammad Khan were guests at the Georgia United Against Cancer Gala on Nov. 10 in Atlanta. The global fundraising effort supports Pakistan's Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, led by Faisal Sultan, MD (second from right).
 
 
 
     
 
 
Winship faculty and trainees share research at SITC
Winship investigators presented at the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer (SITC) Annual Meeting held Nov. 6-10 in National Harbor, MD. Carey Jansen, an MD/PhD student in the Kissick lab, received a SITC Travel Award and was one of several Emory trainees also presenting.
 
  
Trainees earn travel awards to peptides symposium
Winship trainees from the Waller Lab recently received awards at the Akira Arimura Memorial VIP/PACAP and Related Peptides Symposium held on the UCLA campus November 3-6. Winship Gala set for April
Winship will host its sixth black tie Gala fundraiser for cancer research at The St. Regis Atlanta on April 25, 2020. Opportunities to support at the patron level are now available. Tickets go on sale in February.
