The Winship 5K is just 5 days away!

Come join the fun this Saturday, Oct. 5 on the Emory quadrangle and help raise critical funds for cancer research at Winship. Nicki Collen, head coach of the WNBA's Atlanta Dream, will serve as Grand Marshal for the event, now in its 9th year. Whether you participate as a runner, walker, volunteer, or virtual warrior, your support matters and will make a difference! Online registration closes Thursday, Oct. 3 at 6am.

Emory Prevention Research Center awarded new CDC grant

Peach Bowl donates $20 million to Children's Aflac Cancer Center
Peach Bowl, Inc. recently announced it will donate $20 million to the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. The gift, inspired by six-year-old Anna Charles Hollis, will help fund clinical trials aimed at developing new treatments to fight childhood cancers.

Winship Deputy Director Suresh Ramalingam is senior author on the study, "Nivolumab plus Ipilimumab in First-Line Advanced Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer," published in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) and presented at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Congress on Sept. 28.

Winship celebrates new head and neck cancer clinic

Winship leadership, faculty, and staff gathered on Sept. 25 for a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new head and neck cancer clinic at Emory University Hospital Midtown. Harvey attends ASCO Advocacy Summit on Capitol Hill

Winship teams help launch oncology CPOE
Emory Healthcare went live with oncology computerized provider order entry (CPOE) on Sept. 25, an initiative to improve care for patients with cancer. Rebecca Klisovic, MD (right) and colleagues provided key oversight and support for the transition away from paper processes. More information is on the Winship intranet.

Winship in-patient units hold .5K

Patients, staff, and volunteers participated in the annual Winship .5K on Sept. 24 in the Emory University Hospital Tower. The event brings the Winship Win the Fight 5K experience to those in Winship's in-patient units, many of whom will be receiving or providing cancer treatment on race day.
 
 
 
     
 
 
Save the Date: Winship Gala set for Apr. 25
Winship will host its sixth black tie Gala on Apr. 25, 2020 at the St. Regis Atlanta. The event celebrates and supports critical research to benefit patients and survivors treated at Winship. Tickets will go on sale in February, with patron-level sponsorship opportunities available next month.

The Glenn Family Breast Center at Winship will host Breastival on Saturday, Oct. 19, 10am to 2pm at Emory University Hospital Midtown. The free event includes breast cancer screenings, giveaways, and educational activities.
