Riney Foundation gives $7.8 million to Winship for multiple myeloma research

The Paula and Rodger Riney Foundation announced a gift of $7.8 million to Winship to fund the Riney Family Multiple Myeloma Research Program Fund. The two-year gift will support fast-tracked research projects at Winship in multiple myeloma, a blood cancer caused by malignant plasma cells that accumulate in the bone marrow.

Winship is ranked in the top 50 in the United States and number one in Georgia for cancer care, according to U.S. News & World Report. The annual list was released on July 28.

Like his company, Peach State Freightliner, Jim Thompson and his wife Jane have participated in the Winship 5K since its beginning. After being diagnosed with cancer, the Thompsons are more passionate than ever about raising money for cancer research and they encourage others to go all in on the virtual Winship 5K.
