Winship virtual 5K is less than one month away

The Winship Win the Fight 5K Walk/Run, an event hosted on the Emory University campus for the last nine years, will be held virtually this year with a week-long series of events beginning on Sept. 26 and culminating with a celebratory program on Oct. 3.

Drs. Jennifer Carlisle, Conor Steuer, Taofeek Owonikoko, and Nabil Saba provide an overview of the current immune landscape and future directions in lung cancer and head and neck squamous cell carcinoma. The review was published on Aug. 25 in CA: A Journal for Cancer Clinicians.

Beitler to retire from Emory
Jonathan J. Beitler, MD, MBA will retire from Emory on Aug. 31. Beitler, a professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology, joined the faculty in 2007 and specializes in the treatment of head and neck cancer, lung cancer, and thyroid cancer. He has served on a number of national committees focused on advancing clinical care, research, and training.
 
  
Wang to retire from Emory
Ya Wang, MD, PhD will retire from Emory on Sept. 1. Wang, a professor and director of experimental radiation oncology in the Department of Radiation Oncology, joined the faculty in 2008. Her research, which has led to significant advances in the field, has focused on elucidating the mechanism by which mammalian cells respond to DNA double strand breaks.
 
 
 
     
 
 
Bradley to be honored with Keller distinguished professorship
Jeffrey Bradley, MD will be honored with the James W. Keller Distinguished Professorship in Radiation Oncology in a virtual ceremony on Aug. 31 at 5pm. Keller retired as an Emory emeritus professor in 2011 after serving on the faculty of both the Department of Radiation Oncology and Department of Hematology and Medical Oncology.

Johnson leads health disparities session at SLEEP meeting
Dayna Johnson, PhD, MPH, MSW, MS was a presenter and chair for the session “Novel Approaches to Understanding Complex Determinants of Disparities in Sleep Health,” at the 2020 SLEEP Meeting, held virtually Aug. 27-30. SLEEP is the annual meeting of the Associated Professional Sleep Societies.

Winship at Emory Midtown reached a milestone earlier this month with the installation of the linear accelerator (or linac) room walls.
