Winship radiation oncology specialists will present at the NRG Oncology semi-annual meeting Jan. 9-11 in Houston. Lung cancer will be a focus during the meeting, which brings together investigators from multiple institutions to explore recent advances in clinical and basic cancer research.

Saba and El-Rayes dedicate book to late colleague
Drs. Nabil Saba and Bassel El-Rayes have published a second edition of Esophageal Cancer: Prevention, Diagnosis and Therapy. The book is dedicated "In memory of Dr. Hanna Jean Khoury" and "To patients affected by esophageal cancer and their loved ones."

Barwick receives MMRF Research Fellowship Award
Winship postdoctoral fellow Benjamin Barwick, PhD is the recipient of a 2019 Research Fellowship Award from the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF). The one-year award will support epigenetic analysis of multiple myeloma samples from the CoMMpass trial to further the understanding of multiple myeloma biology and the development of innovative therapies.

Jansen receives F30 award
Carey Jansen, an MD/PhD student in the lab of Haydn Kissick, PhD, has received a Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (F30) from the National Cancer Institute for her project, "Examining the mechanisms of immune cell infiltration and organization in a murine model of renal cancer and in primary human renal tumors." The award supports promising dual-degree doctoral candidates during their research and training.

Finn to keynote Cancer Immunology Retreat this Friday
Winship's Cancer Immunology Retreat will take place in Emory's Health Science Research Building on Jan. 10. The half-day event will feature scientific talks, including a keynote by Olivera Finn, PhD of the University of Pittsburgh, a poster session, and a networking reception.

Final call for abstracts: DDT $hark Tank
Sponsored by Winship's Discovery and Developmental Therapeutics (DDT) Program, the 2nd Annual DDT $hark Tank Competition on Jan. 17. Abstracts are due Jan. 7 for proposals that prioritize compounds and biologicals to accelerate anticancer drug discovery moving toward clinical translation. Three winners will receive $5,000 for the use of Winship shared resources.
