Winship investigators to share research at ASCO virtual meeting

More than 50 Winship investigators will be part of the annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), which will take place online, May 29-31, and will include on-demand and scheduled scientific content. Drs. Sagar Lonial and Suresh Ramalingam will give an overview of Winship research featured at ASCO during a live webinar on May 29.

Higgins to co-chair World Conference on Lung Cancer
Kristin Higgins, MD will co-chair the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) World Conference on Lung Cancer, scheduled to take place Sept. 11-14, 2021, in Denver. The conference is the world’s largest meeting dedicated to lung cancer and other thoracic malignancies.

Harris named to NAVIGATE steering committee
Wayne Harris, MD has been selected to represent principal investigators on the Steering Committee for the NCI and VA Interagency Group to Accelerate Trials Enrollment (NAVIGATE). The NAVIGATE program is designed to give veterans easier access to National Cancer Institute-supported clinical trials.

Shared decision-making in phase I clinical trials
Winship investigators, including senior author Rebecca Pentz, PhD, conducted patient and provider interviews to determine if and how providers make recommendations in the setting of phase I cancer clinical trials. Their findings were published May 19 in JCO Oncology Practice.

Janopaul-Naylor selected for ASTRO abstract award
James Janopaul-Naylor, MD has been selected for the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) Resident Clinical/Basic Science Research Award in the Physics category for his abstract, "Synthetic CT-aided Online CBCT Multi-Organ Segmentation for CBCT-guided Adaptive Radiotherapy of Pancreatic Cancer."

Call for proposals: AACR-MPM cancer research grants
The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR)-MPM Oncology Charitable Foundation Transformative Cancer Research Grants represent a joint effort to stimulate high-risk, high-reward research from early- to mid-career investigators. Letters of intent for the grants, which provide $400,000 over two years, are due June 17.

Winship celebrates International Clinical Trials Day

On International Clinical Trials Day, Winship honored clinical research professionals and their contributions to patients, to medical advancement, and to improved health outcomes at Winship. International Clinical Trials Day is celebrated annually on May 20, which marks the day in 1747 when James Lind started the scurvy clinical trial that would lay the foundation for modern clinical research.
