Winship to hold virtual town hall on May 6

Winship Executive Director Walter J. Curran, Jr., MD and members of Winship's senior leadership team will hold a virtual town hall meeting on Wednesday, May 6 from 4pm to 4:50pm. Shoji retires after nearly 50 years at Emory
Mamoru Shoji, MD retired from the Department of Hematology and Medical Oncology on May 1. Shoji, who completed a fellowship in hematology and oncology at Emory, joined the faculty in 1973. The focus of his research has included the preclinical development and targeted delivery of curcumin analogs in combination with other agents for the treatment of solid tumor angiogenesis and bone metastasis.

Emory part of national program to fast-track COVID-19 tests
The Atlanta Center for Microsystems Engineered Point-of-Care Technologies, led by principal investigator and Winship member Wilbur Lam, MD, PhD, has been selected by the National Institutes of Health to evaluate potential COVID-19 tests as part of a new federal initiative. Targeting DGKA for cisplatin-resistant ovarian cancer
Winship investigators, including senior author Sumin Kang, PhD and first author Jie Li, provide preclinical evidence for targeting DGKA as a new strategy to overcome cisplatin resistance in ovarian cancer. The study was published April 27 in Clinical Cancer Research.

Switchenko named assistant director of biostatistics core
Jeffrey Switchenko, PhD, MS has been named assistant director of the Winship Biostatistics and Bioinformatics Shared Resource. Switchenko, who joined the core in 2012, is an assistant professor of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics at the Rollins School of Public Health.
