Georgia Research Alliance supporting two new scholars at Emory
The Georgia Research Alliance (GRA) has named two new GRA-supported investigators, including Winship member Rafick-Pierre Sekaly, PhD. Sekaly will be a GRA Eminent Scholar, and Louise Hecker, PhD is being named a GRA Distinguished Investigator.

Precision medicine strategy evaluated for patients with acute myeloid leukemia
William Blum, MD, Martha Arellano, MD, and colleagues found that a precision medicine strategy for acute myeloid leukemia is feasible within seven days, allowing genomic data to be rapidly incorporated into treatment decisions. The results were published on Oct. 26 in Nature Medicine.

18F-fluciclovine PET/CT aids treatment planning and staging of prostate cancer
Winship investigators from the NCI-funded Prostate Biomarker Center Investigator Group reports that fluorine (18F) fluciclovine PET/CT detects metastases better than conventional imaging in high-risk prostate cancer. The study was published on Oct. 1 in the Journal of Urology.

Winship symposium to focus on disparities in cancer outcomes in Georgia

The Winship Scientific Symposium will be held virtually over two half days, Nov. 16 and 17. This year's theme, "Addressing Disparities in Cancer Outcomes in Georgia," will feature nearly two dozen experts for live webinar presentations, interactive breakout sessions, and a career development panel.

Mehmet Asim Bilen, MD has been named director of Winship Genitourinary Medical Oncology. Bilen is an assistant professor of hematology and medical oncology and associate medical director of Winship's Phase I Clinical Trials Unit.
