Virtual Winship 5K starts this Saturday

Emory University President Gregory Fenves invites the Emory community to take part in the virtual Winship Win the Fight 5K, which kicks off a week-long series of events this Saturday, Sept. 26 and culminates in a celebratory program the morning of Oct. 3. This unique event supports talent and resources from throughout Emory to advance cancer research.

Ramalingam tops list of lung cancer specialists

Suresh Ramalingam, MD has been ranked number one among U.S. physicians who specialize in lung cancer, according to Expertscape, which evaluates experts based on their peer-reviewed publications. Several dozen Winship physicians ranked in the top 0.1% in specialty areas.

Chen elected to American Thyroid Associate board

Amy Chen, MD, MPH has been elected to the board of directors of the American Thyroid Association. Chen will represent otolaryngologist-head and neck surgeons on the board of this professional medical society with over 1,700 members from 70 countries.

Drs. R. Donald Harvey and Jane Meisel met virtually with the offices of U.S. Rep. Hank Johnson, Sen. David Perdue, and Sen. Kelly Loeffler as part of the 2020 Association for Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Advocacy Summit held Sept. 14-18.

Forbes highlights Haynes' triple-negative breast cancer research

In an interview with Forbes posted Sept. 17, Karmella Haynes, PhD discusses engineering chromatin proteins to develop novel therapies for triple-negative breast cancer. Haynes will present her research during a session at SynBioBeta 2020, taking place Sept. 29 - Oct. 1.

Certain PIK3CA-mutated tumors may respond to p110α inhibition

Jennifer Spangle, PhD and colleagues have found that patients with breast and other tumors characterized by PIK3CA C-terminal mutations may derive clinical benefit from p110α-selective inhibitors. Spangle is first author of the study published Sept. 14 in PNAS.
