Emory first in Georgia to offer patients access to new PET/CT scanner

Emory Johns Creek Hospital is the first facility in Georgia to offer patients access to the first mobile, advanced digital positron emission tomography (PET) molecular imaging technology. The uMI 550 is a state-of-the-art digital PET/CT (computed tomography) scanner that delivers faster scan times, reduced radiation doses, and enhanced visualization of small lesions.

Collaborators receive U01 for HPV vaccine uptake intervention

Winship member James Klosky, PhD, ABPP and University of Alabama, Birmingham professor Wendy Landier, PhD, RN, CRNP are principal investigators of a newly awarded U01 grant from National Cancer Institute. The study will evaluate the effectiveness and implementation of an intervention to increase HPV vaccine uptake among young cancer survivors.

Bhasin to deliver Winship virtual Grand Rounds

Winship virtual Grand Rounds lectures continue via Zoom webinar on Sept. 30 with Manoj Bhasin, PhD, MS who will present, "Single-Cellomics: Unraveling Disease Complexity and Therapeutic Responses, One Cell at a Time." Bhasin is scientific director of Winship's Bioinformatics and Systems Biology Shared Resource.

Feng to deliver virtual Elkin lecture on cancer metabolism

Winship virtual Elkin lectures continue via Zoom webinar on Oct. 2 with Zhaohui Feng, PhD, professor of radiation oncology at Rutgers Cancer Institute. Feng will present, "Tumor Suppressor p53 and its Mutants in Cancer Metabolism." Winship's Elkin Lecture Series is held on Fridays at 12:15pm.

Call for proposals: AACR basic cancer research fellowship

The AACR-John and Elizabeth Leonard Family Foundation Basic Cancer Research Fellowship provides a two-year grant of $120,000 to encourage and support postdoctoral or clinical research fellows as they establish successful careers in cancer research. Letters of intent are due Oct. 30.
