Winship Emory Midtown took a major step toward revolutionizing cancer care in Georgia and beyond when Emory University Hospital Midtown and Winship Cancer Institute on August 26 celebrated the 17-story building under construction with a construction topping out ceremony at the site. Frank joins Winship as director of the Division of Hematology

David Frank, MD, PhD, a renowned physician-scientist specializing in leukemia, will join Winship on Sept. 1 as director of the Division of Hematology and professor in Emory's Department of Hematology and Medical Oncology.

LEEP more effectively clears high-risk HPV in HIV+ women

A new study published in JAMA Oncology by Michael H. Chung, MD, MPH, and colleagues, finds that loop electrosurgical procedure (LEEP) is more effective than cryotherapy in clearing high-risk human papillomavirus in women living with HIV.

Chen to retire after nearly two decades at Emory

Georgia Chen, PhD, professor of hematology and medical oncology, will retire on Aug. 31 after 17 years with Emory. Chen's pioneering discoveries in lung and head and neck cancer have garnered numerous awards and honors and led to new understanding of cancer prevention and treatment.

Meltzer to receive Academy Gold Medal

Carolyn Meltzer, MD, will receive the 2021 Academy Gold Medal from the Academy for Radiology & Biomedical Imaging Research. The Academy Gold Medal is awarded for extraordinary contributions in advocacy and advancing the cause of radiology research.

Brown joins Department of Hematology & Medical Oncology

Jacqueline Brown, MD, has joined Winship as an assistant professor in Emory’s Department of Hematology and Medical Oncology. Brown, who completed her training at Emory, specializes in treating patients with genitourinary cancers.

New murals brighten Emory Saint Joseph’s staff parking decks
