Make your signature a permanent part of the new Winship Emory Midtown building

Winship invites you to sign the steel beam that will top the new Winship Emory Midtown facility. Faculty, staff, trainees, volunteers, patients, and visitors will have an opportunity to sign the 8-foot steel beam when it travels to five Winship locations from Aug. 9 through Aug. 12. The signed beam will be installed later this month during a “topping off” ceremony, a construction milestone signifying the completion of a building's structure.

Wan joins Emory and Winship as renowned cancer biologist
Yong Wan, PhD, an internationally recognized cancer biologist, has joined Winship as a professor in Emory's Department of Pharmacology and Chemical Biology. He will serve as director for basic research for the Glenn Family Breast Center at Winship and will hold a secondary appointment in the Department of Hematology and Medical Oncology.

Sebelik named to Academy of Master Surgeon Educators
Merry Sebelik, MD, has been named a member of the American College of Surgeons Academy of Master Surgeon Educators™, a distinction recognizing preeminent surgeon educators who have devoted their careers to advancing the science and practice of surgical education. Sebelik and fellow new members will be honored during a virtual induction ceremony on Oct. 15.

Winship teams awarded REM seed grants
The Regenerative Engineering and Medicine (REM) research center has awarded $300,000 in seed grant funding to three interdisciplinary teams and their innovative drug delivery research. Collaborators on the three funded projects include Winship investigators Drs. Shi-Yong Sun, J. Brandon Dixon, Zachary Buchwald, and Ravi Kane.

Winship surgical oncologists featured at AHPBA meeting
Drs. David Kooby, Shishir Maithel, and Maria Russell led sessions and presented research at the Americas Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (AHPBA) annual meeting, Aug. 2-5. Surgery residents Drs. Savannah Smith and Mohammad Raheel Jajja presented oral abstracts highlighting novel clinical studies.
