Winship investigators to present at ASH annual meeting in Atlanta

Winship investigators will present at the 63rd American Society of Hematology annual meeting, which is taking place in Atlanta, Dec. 11-14. Faculty and trainees will present oral and poster abstracts as well as participate in scientific programs, satellite symposia, and other featured sessions.

NEJM study shows postmenapausal women with breast cancer may be spared chemo
Postmenopausal women with certain types of breast cancer can forgo chemotherapy, according to the results of a national study published in The New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) on Dec. 1. The RxPONDER study's lead author is Kevin Kalinsky, MD, MS, director of Winship's Glenn Family Breast Center.

Modesitt named division director of gynecologic oncology
Susan C. Modesitt, MD, a nationally recognized oncology leader and clinical investigator, has been named division director of gynecologic oncology for Emory’s Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics. Currently with the University of Virginia Cancer Center, Modesitt will lead Winship’s gynecologic cancers disease team when she joins Emory on March 1, 2022.

Alese selected for Diversity in Clinical Trials Career Development Program
Olatunji Alese, MD, has been selected to participate in the first cohort of the Diversity in Clinical Trials Career Development Program. Launched last year by the Bristol Myers Squibb Foundation and partners, the program is designed to foster clinical and translational research that is community informed, designed, and conducted.

Buckovich named new specialty director for Clifton Road campus
Veronica Buckovich, MS, RN, FNP-BC, has joined Winship as specialty director of oncology services, hematology, radiation, surgical oncology, and infusion, for the Clifton Road campus. Buckovich previously served as director of clinical services and quality for St. Joseph’s/Candler Hospital in Savannah, Ga.
 
  
Harrigan named senior manager for medical and surgical oncology
Sarah Harrigan, MSN, MA, RN, OCN, has joined Winship as senior manager of clinic services and operations for medical and surgical oncology. Harrigan was previously the director of the oncology service line for Holzer Health System, which serves southeastern Ohio and western West Virginia.

Emory may submit three applications to the NCI Pathway to Independence Award for Outstanding Early Stage Postdoctoral Researchers (K99/R00) program, which aims to increase and maintain a strong cohort of new and talented, NCI-supported, independent investigators.
