| | In vivo studies reveal new insights into KRAS/LKB1-mutant cancer | Using a Drosophila melanogaster model, researchers showed that the malignancy transition in Lkb1-mutant cells is mediated by increasing oncogenic Ras levels and is genetically dependent on Ampk activity. Drs. Chang-Soo Seong, Briana Rackley, and Melissa Gilbert-Ross (pictured in 2017) were co-first authors and senior author of the study published on Jan. 29 in Communications Biology.

| | | | IL‐37 boosts function of aged T‐cells against leukemia subtype | Age is the greatest risk factor for developing cancer, which is thought to be driven, in part, by aging-associated declines in T-cell function. Researchers led by Jamie Hamilton and Curtis Henry, PhD showed that Interleukin-37 (IL-37) boosts the function of aged endogenous and CAR T-cells, leading to enhanced suppression of B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Their findings were published on Jan. 22 in Aging Cell.

| | Bansavage named nursing unit director at Midtown | Nicole Bansavage RN, MSN, OCN will become the unit director for the Winship at Emory University Hospital Midtown campus on Feb. 8. In her new role, she will direct front-line nursing leaders at the Midtown radiation, infusion, and medical oncology clinics. She has been serving as unit director for Winship at Emory Johns Creek Hospital and Emory Buford.
