Ashesh B. Jani, MD, and Chad W.M. Ritenour, MD, have been selected for James C. Kennedy professorships at Emory University School of Medicine. Jani was named James C. Kennedy Professor in Prostate Cancer, and Ritenour was named James C. Kennedy Professor in Prostate Health. They were honored in a virtual ceremony on June 29.

NCI funds study of new targeted lung cancer treatment
Xingming Deng, MD, PhD, and colleagues have received a five-year, $2.2 million grant from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) to investigate a new therapeutic avenue for treating lung cancer. The study focuses on Mcl-1, a protein that cancer cells rely on for survival and DNA damage repair.

Lowe throws out first pitch at Braves game
Michael Lowe, MD, threw out the first pitch at the Atlanta Braves game on July 2, as part of Emory Healthcare's partnership with the Atlanta Braves to promote sun safety. Lowe specializes in treating cutaneous malignancies, including melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, and Merkel cell carcinoma.
