Winship Invest$ names pilot grant awardees

Eighteen investigators will receive a total of $820,000 in funding for new cancer research projects through Winship Invest$, a peer-reviewed program designed to fund novel, innovative cancer research at Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University.

Arriola appointed dean of Emory’s Laney Graduate School
Kimberly Jacob Arriola, PhD, MPH, executive associate dean for academic affairs in the Rollins School of Public Health and Charles Howard Candler Professor of Behavioral, Social and Health Education Sciences, has been appointed dean of the Laney Graduate School. She will also join the Office of the Provost leadership team as vice provost for graduate affairs.

Meltzer honored with Distinguished Investigator Award
Carolyn Meltzer, MD, FACR, has been selected for the 2021 Distinguished Investigator Award from the Academy for Radiology and Biomedical Imaging Research. Meltzer and fellow awardees will be recognized during the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), taking place Nov. 28 to Dec. 2, in Chicago.

Juneteenth event to feature Dr. Marion Hood

Teng joins Department of Hematology and Medical Oncology
Yong Teng, PhD, has joined Winship as an associate professor in Emory School of Medicine's Department of Hematology and Medical Oncology. His research interests include tumor microenvironment, tumor metabolism, and metastasis as well as a focus on translating these scientific discoveries into better cancer treatments.

National Academies release new report on radioactive sources
Deborah Bruner, RN, PhD, FAAN, contributed to “Radioactive Sources: Applications and Alternative Technologies,” a report from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. The report, published June 14, offers insights into radiation therapy, global health, and radiation security in research.

The annual event, which advocates for cancer research federal funding, is organized by the Association of American Cancer Institutes (AACI) and American Associate for Cancer Research (AACR).

Emory Johns Creek Hospital completes expansion project
Emory Johns Creek Hospital has completed a facility expansion that adds two new floors, 40 additional beds, a new parking deck, and approximately 70,000 square feet to the existing patient tower. A ribbon cutting was held at the hospital on June 10 to commemorate the expansion.
