President Biden, Vice President Harris visit Emory campus

Emory University hosted President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris on Friday afternoon, March 19. The president and vice president were in Atlanta to attend a series of meetings, including a visit to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and a conversation with leaders in the Asian American and Pacific Islander community.

The 12th annual Winship Oncology Nursing Symposium, “Getting our Groove Back: Bringing Oncology Nursing to the Forefront,” will be held virtually on June 12. Registration is free for Emory employees. Up to 20 continuing education credits can be earned live or on-demand after the conference.

Winship radiation oncology team opens new virtual waiting room
A team of radiation oncologists, medical physicists, radiation therapists, and administrators have created a system to help with social distancing in Winship’s radiation oncology waiting rooms. The new automated paging system communicates updates about a patient’s appointment status via text message.

Bruner to receive Fagin Distinguished Researcher Award
Deborah Watkins Bruner, PhD, RN, FAAN has been selected for the Claire M. Fagin Distinguished Researcher Award, which honors distinguished Penn Nursing faculty and alumni. Bruner will deliver the award lectureship during a virtual ceremony on April 15.

Bourgeois named senior manager of Phase I Unit
John Bourgeois has been named senior manager of clinical services and operations for Winship’s Phase I Clinical Trials Unit. As a part of his expanded role, Bourgeois will also be the nursing leader for the procedure clinic on the Clifton campus.

Bioinformatics and Systems Biology (BiSB), one of Winship’s 11 shared resources offering advanced research technologies and services, provides expertise and infrastructure in the design, analyses, and simulation of high-throughput omics data. In collaboration with Bhasin Lab, BiSB has developed a new genomics data-driven package for its Survival Genie platform, a web portal through which researchers can explore cancer survival analysis.
