Virtual poster session to highlight "Best of Winship at AACR"

The Best of Winship at AACR, a free virtual event on May 26, will feature research from the 2021 American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) annual meeting. Presenters include Drs. Jinbing Bai, Georgia Chen, Lindsay Collin, Eun-Ok Im, Hunter Jonus, Arhanti Sadanand, Joellen Schildkraut, Shubin Shahab, Weilong Yao, Dan Yan, and Ziling Mao, MPH.

Targeting radiation resistance: Why some tumors are so stubborn

Researchers from Georgia Tech and Emory, led by Drs. Melissa Kemp and Josh Lewis, are using genome-scale modeling to better understand tumor metabolism and variations in how different tumors respond to radiation therapy. The team is working on a tool to help clinicians more effectively predict and, potentially, improve radiosensitivity for individual patients.

Glenn Family Breast Center launches monthly team science meetings

The Glenn Family Breast Center's new monthly team science meetings, held the last Tuesday of the month, are interactive, interdisciplinary sessions designed to establish new multi-investigator collaborations. The May 25 meeting, led by Kevin Kalinsky, MD, MS, will focus on late recurrence in HR+/HER2- breast cancer.

BDCI initiative announces summer seminar series

Emory's Biological Discovery through Chemical Innovation (BDCI) initiative, led by Drs. Haian Fu and Huw Davies, will hold seminars on Fridays throughout the summer. The May 28 seminar will focus on the state of BDCI and progress toward building a collaborative and synergistic research network at Emory.

Emory announces Nursing Excellence Award winners

Twelve Winship nurses are among the recipients of this year's Emory Healthcare Nursing Excellence Awards. The award recipients were announced by the Emory Healthcare Nursing Recruitment and Retention Council during National Nurses Week, celebrated annually May 6-12.

Emory teams honored with Patient Experience Awards

Emory clinical teams, including several that provide care for Winship patients, received "Best in Class" Patient Experience Awards from Emory Healthcare's Physician Group Practice. The awards recognize high performance on patient satisfaction surveys for fiscal year 2021.

Jordan elected to national cancer registrar council's leadership

Crystal Jordan, CTR, has been elected as the administrator for the National Cancer Registrars Association’s Council on Certification. The council oversees the credentialing process for tumor registrars and upholds core professional competencies for cancer surveillance and research activities.

Bazrafshan receives Eleanor Main Student Mentor Award

Alisina Bazrafshan, a member of Salaita lab who earned his PhD in chemistry, has been named a 2021 Eleanor Main Student Mentor Award recipient. The award recognizes individuals who exemplify mentoring of the highest quality in graduate education.
