Winship and partners work to expand lung cancer services for veterans in the Southeast

With new funding from the Veterans Affairs VA Lung Precision Oncology Program, Winship will provide thoracic oncology expertise to help three VA medical centers expand access to high quality, disease altering lung cancer clinical trials to veterans in the Southeast. Drs. Nicholas Maurice and Badi El-Osta are leading the project for Winship and the Atlanta VA.

Spirit of Winship Award renamed to honor late couple’s legacy
Winship will honor the memory of Dell and Bobby Rearden by renaming an annual award given to outstanding staff and volunteers. Under its new name, the Dell and Bobby Rearden Spirit of Winship Award will continue to recognize Winship faculty, staff, and volunteers who demonstrate exemplary service, teamwork, and a commitment to the public good.

Buchwald receives ASTRO-MRA Young Investigator Award
Zachary Buchwald, MD, PhD, has received the ASTRO-MRA Young Investigator Award in Radiation Oncology from the American Society for Radiation Oncology-Melanoma Research Alliance. Funding from the award will support Buchwald’s research project, "Enhancing an abscopal response by elucidating the role of stem-like T-cells."

Retreat to explore therapeutic delivery innovations
The Regenerative Engineering & Medicine (REM) Center, a collaboration between Emory, Georgia Tech, and the University of Georgia, will hold its annual retreat online on May 10. Sessions will focus on developing new drugs, targeted drug delivery, and longer acting or enhanced drugs.

CTRC announces committee name change
Winship’s Clinical and Translational Review Committee is now the Protocol Review and Monitoring Committee, a name that reflects the group's key charge. The committee provides internal scientific review of cancer-related protocols in coordination with Winship disease working groups and the Emory Institutional Review Board.
