| | Treating precursor lesions reduces cancer risk for people with HIV | Researchers from the Anal Cancer/HSIL Outcomes Research (ANCHOR) study (Emory PI: Lisa Flowers, MD, MPH) have found that treating precursor anal cancer lesions can significantly reduce the risk of progression to anal cancer among people living with HIV. The national phase III clinical trial was halted due to the therapy’s high success rates.

| | | | Sloan receives new R01 for glioblastoma study | Steven Sloan, MD, PhD, has received an R01 from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke to study developmental drivers of glioblastoma and to identify new ways to mitigate this highly aggressive type of adult brain tumor. The five-year grant, "Shared mechanisms of astrocyte maturation in development and glioblastoma," includes co-investigator Victor Corces, PhD.
