Immunotherapy studies show promise for patients with head and neck cancer

Winship researchers played a leading role in two new studies which could change the way oncologists treat oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma, the most common form of head and neck cancer. The findings, published in Cell Reports Medicine, found that pre-surgery immunotherapy is safe and effective in treating some patients.

ASTRO meeting features Winship radiation oncology contributions

Winship faculty, trainees, and a record number of staff members from the Department of Radiation Oncology will moderate sessions, serve as expert speakers for educational programs, and share original research at the 63rd annual American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) meeting, taking place in Chicago Oct. 24 -27.

Into the heart of brightness: Quave's memoir celebrates a life in science

A new book by Cassandra Quave, PhD, “The Plant Hunter: A Scientist’s Quest for Nature’s Next Medicines,” hit bookshelves Oct. 19. A campus Q&A with the author will be held Oct. 26 in the Emory Student Center from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Now in its 15th year, the Atlanta Lung Cancer Symposium on Oct. 30 will address the latest strategies and state-of-the-art approaches for managing lung cancer. Symposium faculty include Drs. Suresh Ramalingam, Kristin Higgins, Jeffrey Bradley, Jennifer Carlisle, and Onkar Khullar.

Winship's Updates in the Management of Head and Neck Cancer will be held virtually on Saturday, Nov. 6. This live symposium will explore the current treatment paradigms and optimal application of recent data through a series of panel discussions, case presentations, and interactive audience response input.

Winship's Clinical Practice Updates in Hemostasis and Thrombosis conference will be held virtually on Saturday, Nov. 13. The course will cover the diagnosis and management of inherited and acquired hemostatic and thrombotic disorders along with new medication updates.

DiMotta joins Center for Bleeding & Clotting Disorders

Christopher DiMotta, MBA, RT, has been named senior administrative director of the Hemophilia of Georgia Center for Bleeding & Clotting Disorders of Emory. With an extensive background in health care administration, he most recently served as director of operations for the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center in Delaware.

EIGC seminar explores 10X Genomics platforms

The Emory Integrated Genomics Core (EIGC) and 10x Genomics will host a virtual seminar on Oct. 26 at 10:30 a.m. Emory investigators Drs. Christopher Scharer and Ashish Sharma will share their experiences using 10X Genomics platforms for spatial profiling and single cell ATACseq and how the technologies facilitated their research.
