Diversity Week to celebrate inclusion and belonging

Emory School of Medicine will host Diversity Week, May 16-20, a celebration of the broad range of identities and experiences that make up our diverse community. All events are free and open to all, and feature lectures, breakout sessions, poster presentations and social activities, including a block party at noon on Friday, May 20.

Liotta awarded Perkin Medal for contributions to lifesaving research
Emory chemist and Winship member Dennis Liotta, PhD, has received the 2022 Perkin Medal, the highest honor a scientist can receive for contributions to the field of applied chemistry in the U.S. He has been instrumental in the creation of novel therapies, including drugs to treat HIV and cancer.

Badve selected as Komen Scholar
Winship surgical pathologist and breast cancer researcher Sunil Badve, MD, has been named to the Komen Scholars. He joins a distinguished group of breast cancer researchers, clinicians and advocates who help guide Susan G. Komen's work to help people diagnosed with breast cancer live longer, better lives.

Kalinsky celebrated as Glenn Family Chair in Cancer Research
A reception celebrating the naming of Kevin Kalinsky, MD, MS, as the Glenn Family Chair in Cancer Research was held April 20 in Winship’s John H. Kauffman Auditorium. Kalinsky serves as director of the Glenn Family Breast Center, which was established in 2013 through gifts from the Wilbur and Hilda Glenn Family Foundation.

Winship director of pharmacy, Ryan Haumschild PharmD, MS, MBA, has received a 40 Under 40 Outstanding Young Alumni Award from the University of Florida. Award criteria include making a significant impact in the field and demonstrating civic or professional accomplishments at the state, national or international level.

SSO virtual tumor board features Winship melanoma specialists
Winship melanoma specialists Michael Lowe, MD, MS, and Ragini Kudchadkar, MD, are presenting at the Society of Surgical Oncology’s new virtual tumor board on April 25 at 5 p.m. The webinar will include a case-based discussion on evidence supporting neoadjuvant systemic therapy for surgically resectable melanoma.

Winship welcomes new class of APP fellows
Winship’s Advanced Practice Providers Fellowship Program welcomes incoming fellows Hannah Hooten, NP, Bob Calvert, FNP, Joseph Costa, NP, and Van Nguyen Hopkins, NP. The one-year postgraduate program prepares fellows to become highly skilled in multidisciplinary, collaborative and evidence-based patient care in medical oncology, hematology, bone marrow transplant and radiation oncology.
