Winship featured at 2022 Multidisciplinary Head and Neck Cancers Symposium

The 2022 Multidisciplinary Head and Neck Cancers Symposium, held in Phoenix Feb. 24-26, featured oral and poster presentations from several Winship experts and trainees. The national symposium was planned by the American Head & Neck Society, American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society for Radiation Oncology and Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer.

Winship nurse researchers receive SNRS awards
The Southern Nursing Research Society’s annual conference, held Feb. 23-25, included honors for Winship faculty Eun-Ok Im, PhD, MPH, RN (Distinguished Nurse Researcher Award), Jessica Wells, PhD, RN (Research in Minority Health Award), Kate Yeager, PhD, RN (Research in Nursing Health Authorship Award), and trainees Zahra Barandouzi, PhD (Research Grant Award) and Christine Liang (Top Student Poster).

Nduom selected for NCI Early Investigator Advancement Program
Edjah Nduom, MD, has been accepted into the National Cancer Institute’s Early Investigator Advancement Program. The program aims to enhance professional skills, guide preparation of an R01 grant application, provide access to a mentoring and peer network and grow a community of emerging independent investigators from diverse backgrounds.

Winship GI cancer symposium set for Oct. 8
The 11th Winship Gastrointestinal Cancer Symposium, taking place Saturday, Oct. 8, will feature a series of interactive case-based presentations and didactic lectures including an expert review of the latest procedures, technologies and treatments for gastrointestinal malignancies. A registration discount for the live or virtual experience is available to Winship faculty, staff and trainees and Winship Cancer Network affiliates.

Inaugural BDCI summit to focus on innovation in precision medicine
The Emory Biological Discovery through Chemical Innovation (BDCI) summit, "Driving Innovation in Precision Medicine," will take place on March 7. Presented as part of the Constructive Collisions series, the summit will include lightning talks, networking and a pitch session with on-the-spot funding opportunities for collaborative projects. Call for proposals: V Foundation Clinical Scholar
The V Foundation’s Clinical Scholar program aims to develop the careers of clinicians who will become leaders in developing programs of clinical trials that are sequential and based on hypothesis-driven research. The total grant amount is $200,000, paid in two annual installments of $100,000. Letters of intent are due March 7.

With two funding cycles each year, Winship Invest$ supports novel cancer research projects with one-year budgets up to $50,000. The current cycle seeks proposals in precision immunotherapy, cancer disparities, breast cancer, early detection, risk reduction and prevention. Letters of intent are due March 4.
