Nduom helps President Biden relaunch Cancer Moonshot

Edjah Nduom, MD, was tapped to introduce President Joe Biden at a ceremony to relaunch the Cancer Moonshot initiative that began five years ago under President Barack Obama’s administration. The announcement highlighted the initiative’s new goals to reduce the death rate from cancer by at least 50 percent over the next 25 years and improve the experience of people and their families living with and surviving cancer.

Waller named interim associate director for clinical research
Edmund K. Waller, MD, PhD, has been named Winship’s interim associate director for clinical research. Waller, who served in the role from 2009 to 2012, brings extensive experience to this position, which is charged with overseeing and coordinating clinical research and clinical trials across Winship’s campuses.

Teng receives inaugural Wally Award
Yong Teng, PhD, received the inaugural Wally Award, recognizing the year’s highest-scoring Winship Invest$ pilot grant awardee. Named in honor of Winship’s former executive director Walter J. Curran Jr., MD, the Wally Award is a peer-reviewed pilot grant created by the Winship Advisory Board and the result of the board’s philanthropic efforts through the Winship 5K.

Tian Liu, PhD, has been elected as a fellow of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine, recognizing her exemplary contributions to the field, service to the profession, and dedication to training the next generation of medical physicists. Emory Proton Therapy Center celebrates patient care milestone

Since opening its doors in 2018, the Emory Proton Therapy Center has reached milestone after milestone. This week, Megan Smith, who was diagnosed with a central nervous system tumor, became the 2,022nd patient to complete proton treatment at the center. During a special ceremony with her doctor, members of her clinical care team, and center staff, Megan rang the bell to mark the occasion.
