Improving multiple myeloma outcomes for patients with missing chromosome

Winship researchers are testing for the first time in patients an investigational drug that is intended to improve outcomes for patients with relapsed myeloma, particularly for the 10% of those with multiple myeloma who face poor prognosis because they lack chromosome 17p. The trial’s principal investigator at Winship is Jonathan Kaufman, MD.

For months, Johan dismissed the traces of red in his bowel movements. Then he learned he had a three-inch tumor on his colon. His doctors at Winship recommended a course of chemo and radiation before considering surgery. It worked, and no surgery was needed after the tumor disappeared.
