The 2023 Friends of Winship Fashion a Cure Fashion Show on April 18 raised more than $340,000 to support Winship research in cancers that affect women. This year's theme was "Music to Our Ears" and featured music-inspired fashions from local boutiques and designers. Models included cancer survivors, caregivers, Winship researchers and volunteers.
Winship Executive Director Suresh S. Ramalingam, MD, was elected to the Association of American Physicians during the AAP/ASCI/APSA Joint Meeting in Chicago, April 21-23. Election to the AAP is an honor extended to physicians with outstanding credentials in basic or translational biomedical research and is limited to 70 persons per year.
Jojo Liu, a student researcher in the lab of Winship member Edmund K. Waller, MD, PhD, is one of four Emory juniors to receive a Goldwater Scholarship, the nation’s top scholarship for undergraduates studying math, natural sciences and engineering.
Monica Goodman, BSN, RN, OCN, a unit nurse educator in Winship’s Phase I Clinical Trials Unit, has received a DAISY Foundation Award. The award honors nurses who demonstrate extraordinary clinical skill and compassion to patients and families.
Debuting on April 19, the fourth season of the Emmy award-winning PBS television series "Your Fantastic Mind" highlights cutting-edge scientific and clinical breakthroughs in brain health. Winship members featured this season include Edjah K. Nduom, MD, and Nick Seyfried, PhD (episode 3, airing May 3); Ashish Khanna, MD (episode 4, airing May 10); and Ali Zarrabi, MD (episode 5, airing May 17).
On April 21, the stainless steel logo sign was installed in the motor court of Winship at Emory Midtown, part of the finishing touches on the new full-service oncology center opening soon in Midtown Atlanta. All Emory employees are invited to stop by our open house and take a tour of this brand-new center on Wednesday, May 3, from 4 to 8 p.m.
The National Cancer Institute’s Developmental Therapeutics Program is hosting a free educational workshop, "Specialized Topics in Preclinical Development of Small Molecule Cancer Drugs," consisting of six webinar sessions from June 22 to July 28, 2023. Topics will be addressed by subject matter experts from government, academia and industry.
Winship Cancer Institute and the Georgia Tech/Emory Department of Biomedical Engineering are hosting a mixer for Winship and BME researchers interested in collaborating further on cancer research. The event will be on Emory's campus on Thursday, May 18, 4-6 p.m.
