Winship 5K goes virtual, but donations still accepted through December 31
When the path of Hurricane Ian was projected to bring heavy winds and rain to the Atlanta area, the 2022 Winship 5K shifted to a virtual-only event to best ensure the safety of participants. The cancellation of the in-person race didn't stop more than 3000 participants from walking and running in their own neighborhoods and raising $1,000,378 so far. That amount marks a 20% jump from last year's total raised, and surpasses the $1 million goal set for this year's race. Donations are still being gratefully accepted through Dec. 31.
Some 5100 individual donors and 345 volunteers supported the race. Both participants and volunteers have been sent their runner swag: a race t-shirt, finisher medal and bib.
The annual Winship 5K is a family-friendly run/walk benefiting lifesaving cancer research at Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University. Now in its 12th year, the event has raised over $8.4 million in support of scientific discoveries at Winship that help patients live longer, healthier lives.
There is still time to donate to help find cures for cancer. What better time to do it than now?
