The Oncology Nurse Residency Program at Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University recently celebrated its first class of graduates. Twenty-one graduates comprised the first cohort of the program, which launched in spring 2023.
“I am so proud of how hard all of our graduates have worked to build a solid foundation in oncology, and I look forward to watching them grow their oncology nursing careers,” says Leslie Landon, MSN, RN, NPD-BC, director of nursing education at Winship. “Our team is stronger because of them.”
The comprehensive, evidence-based program equips novice oncology nurses with the skills and knowledge to provide exceptional care to patients and their families facing cancer. The program strives to enhance the expertise, critical thinking and contributions of oncology nurses, helping to improve patients’ health outcomes and care experience.
“We're confident this is the first of many proud moments in the nursing careers of our program graduates,” says Edna M. Smith, PhD, RN, OCN, Winship’s education coordinator. “The program has prepared our graduates to embrace their calling, strive for excellence and hopefully discover true meaning and purpose in their work as oncology nurses.”
