Lonial receives Bart Barlogie Clinical Investigator Award for contributions to multiple myeloma research

The International Myeloma Society has awarded the 2024 Bart Barlogie Clinical Investigator Award to Sagar Lonial, MD, FACP, chief medical officer of Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University. A leading expert in multiple myeloma treatment and research, Lonial is also the Anne and Bernard Gray Family Chair in Cancer and professor and chair of the Department of Hematology and Medical Oncology at Emory University School of Medicine.
Lonial was honored with the award at the International Myeloma Society’s Annual Meeting in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Sept. 25-28. Named in honor of eminent physician and researcher Bart Barlogie, MD, the award aims to recognize and stimulate excellence in the field of multiple myeloma.
“This award is an outstanding recognition of the contributions of the Winship myeloma team to our field,” says Lonial. “I am honored to be recognized in the name of Dr. Barlogie, who made so many seminal contributions to patient care and research in myeloma.”

The International Myeloma Society is a professional, scientific and medical society that promotes research, education and clinical studies in all aspects of multiple myeloma. Its annual meeting draws thousands of professionals to discuss the latest basic, preclinical and clinical developments.
In parallel to the meeting, the International Myeloma Society also hosted the 8th Nursing and Allied Health Symposium on Sept. 25-26. Danielle Roberts, MS, MMSc, PA-C, and Sara Scott, PharmD, BCOP, from Winship’s hematology clinical care team presented during the speaker sessions and Charise Gleason, MSN, NP-BC, AOCNP, chaired a session. Winship advanced practice providers Roseann Pruitt, PA, Rachael Morffi, PA-C, MPH, and Kim Nguyen, PA, presented posters.
