Your First Visit

Thank you for trusting your care with Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University. Once you have secured an appointment, it's time to prepare for your first visit.

What to Expect

Your first visit at Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University is a time for you to meet with your doctor and care team. During this time, we will review your diagnosis, discuss your treatment options and get to know you as a person. Together, we will carefully decide on the next steps.

What to Bring

When visiting any of our clinics to meet with your doctor or care team, we recommend wearing comfortable clothes and footwear. It's also a good idea to bring a light sweater or shawl for warmth. If the visitor policy permits, we encourage you to bring a family member or a friend along.

Before your appointment, gather the following items:

  • List of current medications and dosages
  • Pathology slides
  • Scan and X-ray films
  • Copy of your insurance card (front and back)
  • Entertainment such as a book, tablet or laptop (free WiFi available; connect to EHCGuest)

You may also need to help us obtain records from your referring or current physician. Examples of documents we may require include pathology reports, lab reports, X-ray and scan reports, history and physical records, office notes, treatment records, operative reports and hospital discharge summaries.
