Dr. Daneshmand joins Emory from Duke University Medical Center, where he served as surgical director of lung and heart-lung transplantation and surgical director of the Extracorporeal Life Support Program. He was also appointed the program director of the Advanced Cardiac and Thoracic Organ Transplant Surgery Fellowship at Duke.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree from Union College in Schenectady, New York, Daneshmand received his medical degree from Albany Medical College in Albany, New York. While at Union College and Albany Medical College, he took part in a seven-year honors medical education program, which allowed him to complete his undergraduate degree a year early and begin medical school. He then completed his surgical residency, cardiothoracic surgery fellowship and cardiothoracic surgery research fellowship at Duke University Medical Center.
His research interests focus on the causes of and treatments for advanced heart and lung failure to identify new therapies. These therapies include new medications; ECMO; mechanical circulatory support devices; and organ transplantation for patients suffering from end-stage organ failure.
With Daneshmand's arrival, Emory's heart and lung transplant, mechanical circulatory and ECMO programs will consolidate services into one comprehensive program, improving care coordination for patients and their families, and providing world class transplant and life support services to the people of Georgia and the entire Southeast.

Dr.Danesshmad was very knowledgeable and personable answered all my questions I didn't feel like a number I felt great concern from him to express his knowledge about the procedure and follow up. All my questions were answered. this is a huge decision for me. He answered everything and I didn't feel pressured for time made the recommendation easy to understand. I feel lucky that he was recommended to me by Dr. Fisher in pulmonary department at Emory. He was another awesome Doctor that you should all be proud to have
