Andrew L. Hong, MD

Biography

Andrew L. Hong, MD, is an associate pofessor in the Department of Pediatrics at Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Hong is a board-certified pediatric oncologist at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. Prior to joining Emory, he was on faculty at Dana-Farber/Boston Children's Cancer and Blood Disorders Center as an instructor of pediatrics.

Education

Dr. Hong received his medical degree from University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicinein Chicago, Illinois. He completed his pediatrics internship and residency at Boston Children's Hospital and Boston Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. He then completed a fellowship in Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at Boston Children's Hospital and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Research

Dr. Hong's research focuses on high risk solid tumors (e.g. kidney cancers, soft tissue sarcomas and brain tumors). These cancers represent the areas of greatest need in Pediatric Oncology. His work uses functional genomic techniques (e.g. RNAi, CRISPR-Cas9) and the latest sequencing technologies (e.g. long range phased sequencing, scRNAseq, ATACseq) to identify new therapeutics and mechanisms in pediatric cancers.
