Biography
Jenny Owen serves as the chief marketing and communications officer at Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University. She has more than two decades of experience in directing award-winning marketing and public relations communications. In her role at Winship, she leads a team responsible for developing and executing strategic, integrated and multichannel internal and external mass communications to build and protect the institute's brand reputation, inform and engage its stakeholders, advance its mission and drive its growth and success. She oversees branding, advertising, marketing, event promotion, executive communications, reputation management, media relations, social media, website, and internal communications.
Prior to joining Winship, Owen served for 11 years as the senior director of public relations and marketing communications at Virginia Commonwealth University Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center, an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in Richmond, Virginia. Previously, she worked in public affairs at NYU Stern School of Business in New York City and in corporate communications and investor relations at Apple REIT Companies, a family of public real estate investment trusts that owns hotels nationwide.
Owen serves on the Senior Advisory Panel of the NCI Public Affairs and Marketing Network (PAMN), a national association for public affairs and marketing professionals of NCI Cancer Centers. She also is a member of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), American Marketing Association (AMA) and Society for Healthcare Strategy and Market Development (SHSMD).
Education
Owen graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in communications studies from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, with double minors in marketing and graphics and women's studies. While there, she led Virginia Tech's 24-hour-operating college radio station, WUVT 90.7 FM, as its general manager and was on air as a disc jockey.
