Khalid Salaita, PhD, is the Samuel Chandler Dobbs Professor of Chemistry, associate professor and director of graduate studies in the Department of Chemistry at Emory University. He is also program faculty in the Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering at Emory University and Georgia Institute of Technology.
Dr. Salaita is a member of the Cell and Molecular Biology Research Program at Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.
Dr. Salaita earned his PhD in Chemistry from Northwestern University in 2006. After obtaining his PhD, Dr. Salaita completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley.
Dr. Salaita's lab is interested in studying the role of mechanical forces in cell biology and tumor development. To address this goal, they develop new technologies to image mechanical forces generated by cells using molecules that fluoresce upon experiencing mechanical tension. They also develop nanoparticle actuators that can apply mechanical forces to cells, allowing them to understand how forces influence biology and disease progression.
