Winship researcher Jennifer Spangle, PhD, received a five-year R35 grant from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences for her study, "Role of novel histone modifications and variants in transcriptional regulation." The project will investigate how histone-dependent gene expression governs functional biological changes that may underlie cancer and other diseases.
Winship researcher Ronald Eldridge, PhD, MPH, received a two-year R03 grant from the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences for his study, "Validating a prognostic plasma metabolomic biomarker to improve precision medicine in head and neck cancer patients." The project will evaluate a pre-treatment metabolomic blood biomarker designed to identify patients with head and neck cancer who can be successfully treated with targeted, less intense therapies with fewer side effects.
