Winship Executive Director Suresh Ramalingam, MD, was awarded the Paul A. Bunn, Jr. Scientific Award at the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) World Conference on Lung Cancer. The award recognizes an IASLC scientist for a lifetime achievement of scientific contributions to thoracic cancer research.
Team Pandora, led by Winship researcher Dean Jones, PhD, was selected as one of 12 finalists competing for a $25 million Cancer Grand Challenge Award, a multidisciplinary research contest from the Cancer Research UK in partnership with the National Cancer Institute. Team Pandora will receive approximately $40,000 in seed funding to develop a full research application in early-onset cancers.

Kelsey Bennion, an Emory doctoral student mentored by Winship members Mandy Ford, PhD, and Chrystal Paulos, PhD, has received a National Cancer Institute F99/K00 award, which provides funding for the final two years of predoctoral work and four years of postdoctoral work. The grant will support Bennion’s research into novel mechanisms to increase CD8+ T-cell survival and ultimately improve outcomes in patients receiving immunotherapy for melanoma.
The Winship T32 Training Program in Cancer Biology has selected Frances Bennett, MD, Timothy Hua, PhD, and Jimmy Patel, MD, PhD, for postdoctoral fellowships. The program is funded by a T32 grant from the National Cancer Institute with the goal of developing the next generation of researchers and leaders in cancer biology.

The 12th Annual Winship Cancer Institute Gastrointestinal Cancer Symposium will be held at Winship at Emory Midtown on Saturday, Oct. 14. The symposium will feature an expert review of the latest procedures, technology and medical treatments; a review of national guidelines; and case-based discussions incorporating multidisciplinary care approaches, novel, recently FDA-approved drugs and clinical trial eligibility.
The 2023 BRIDGE Community Forum will be held in the Claudia Nance Rollins Building on Saturday, Oct. 21. The forum aims to foster collaboration, inspire innovation and empower communities to ensure a future free of disparities in breast cancer.
