Ashish Khanna, MD

Background

Board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation, Ashish Khanna, MD, focuses on the identification and treatment of neuromuscular, musculoskeletal and other issues resulting from cancer and related treatments, including aromatase inhibitor joint pains, lymphedema, pain, neuropathy, radiation fibrosis syndrome and trismus. He is a strong advocate for cancer survivors and access to rehabilitation care and services.

Dr. Khanna serves as director of cancer rehabilitation at Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University. He is an assistant professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine.

Prior to joining Emory, Dr. Khanna was an attending physician at Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation. He also previously served two years as an intramural research assistant at the National Institutes of Health.

Research

Thankfully, advances in cancer care such as chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery mean that more people than ever before are surviving long after their cancer diagnosis. Unfortunately, a large fraction of them live with at least one serious impairment as a consequence of their treatments that seriously impacts their ability to function and quality of life. Dr. Khanna's research focuses on the consequences of treatment faced by cancer patients and survivors.

Publications

Dr. Khanna has written numerous book chapters and peer-reviewed scientific articles on cancer rehabilitation and is the co-author of a pocket guide for clinicians, Cancer Rehabilitation: A Concise and Portable Pocket Guide. This concise and essential guide to cancer rehabilitation will help the clinician navigate the care of this often complex population.

Additionally, Dr. Khanna presents frequently at national and international meetings and has been interviewed for several podcasts on key cancer-related topics.
