Nader Massarweh, MD, MPH, FACS, is chief of surgery at the Atlanta VA Healthcare System, vice chair of veterans affairs for the Emory Department of Surgery, and associate professor of Surgery for the Emory Division of Surgical Oncology at Emory University School of Medicine. A board certified surgeon, Dr. Massarweh specializes in minimally invasive approaches to the treatment of solid organ malignancies including primary and secondary liver tumors, cystic and solid pancreatic tumors, biliary tract cancer and colorectal cancer.
Dr. Massarweh is a member of the Cancer Prevention and Control Research Program at Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University.
Prior to joining Emory, Dr. Massarweh held positions at the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery and the Section of Health Services Research at Baylor College of Medicine, was an investigator for the Center for Innovations in Quality, Effectiveness and Safety at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, and a practicing surgical oncologist at the VA Medical Center.
Education
Dr. Massarweh received his medical degree at Tulane University. He then attended the University of Washington, where he received his MPH and completed his post-graduate research fellowship and general surgery residency. He also completed a complex general surgical oncology fellowship at MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Research
Dr. Massarweh's research interests include assessing the impact and effectiveness of national health policy initiatives, evaluating the reliability and value of national quality measures, and improving the timely dissemination of surgical performance data for quality improvement. He has received funding from the NIH/NCI, the VA's Health Services Research and Development Service, and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality for studies involving health services, health policy and health care quality improvement.
