Biography

Eric Ortlund, PhD, is a professor in the Department of Biochemistry at Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Ortlund is a member of the Discovery and Developmental Therapeutics Research Program at Winship.

Education

Dr. Ortlund earned his PhD in Chemistry and Biochemistry from the University of South Carolina. After obtaining his PhD, Dr. Ortlund completed postdoctoral research at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a postdoctoral fellowship at Lineberger Cancer Center.

Research

Dr. Ortlund's lab uses sophisticated structural, biochemical and cellular techniques to study how lipids and hormones regulate genes. They focus on transcription factors, enzymes and receptors that play central roles in development, cancer, stress and metabolism. The Ortlund lab also studies how tight molecular partnerships evolve.
