Lisa Persons, MDiv, serves as a Compassion Centered Spiritual Health Fellow at Winship Emory Saint Joseph's Hospital. After graduating from Candler School of Theology in 1996, she completed her chaplaincy residency at Peachtree Hospice. An associate of Green Bough House of Prayer in Scott, Georgia and affiliated with Ignatius House Retreat Center in Atlanta, she has spent the past twenty years in spiritual formation and as a spiritual director, meeting with people individually and leading spirituality groups. She is happy to be returning to chaplaincy to pursue board certification and to experience the CCSH approach of integrating contemplative practice into health care.
Lisa grew up in Haddonfield, New Jersey, and graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She has lived in the Atlanta area since 1990 and raised her family in Decatur. Her work has included ministry with homeless people at Café 458, serving people with mental illness at Community Friendship Inc. and helping start a L’Arche community for adults with intellectual disabilities. Throughout, she has been part of the Community of Hospitality Inc., an interfaith worship circle in Decatur, where she discovered how sacred space can support the flourishing of each person.
